Some Thoughts: Home

If there is one thing I have learned from being away at school is that the idea of a physical 'home' becomes almost non-existent. Once you're in college your bedroom at home doesn't feel the same and you refer to your dorm (and school) as home. I find myself living out of my suitcase when I come home for breaks. And this drives my mom crazy. This year more than last year, I almost feel as though I am transient and don't really have a place that is home. Of course, I have the house I grew up in. But I don't spent the majority of my time there anymore. I was home for three months this summer, spent three and a half months in Des Moines, three weeks at home again, and now I am in London for about four months. Through all of this, I have found that the idea of 'home' can be found in anything.  I have compiled a list of things that feel like home. These are things that I can have with me where ever I am.

the 1975 by the 1975
Although I discovered this band after I left for college, their album feels like home somehow. I have probably spent more time listening to that CD more than any others this past year and a half. I put this album and immediately feel relaxed.

Beside You by 5 Seconds of Summer (old version)
This is probably one of my top favorite songs of all time. It is also one of the only songs (besides Wherever You Are) that will absolutely make me cry. This band and their music defined summer of 2013 for me. I literally listened to this song on repeat all the way to the IA/IL border the day I left for college.

My Headphones
I swear I can put these on and be anywhere I want.

+ by Ed Sheeran
This album defined my senior year of high school. I used to listen to it all the time while doing my math homework. It brings back super happy memories of spending time with my best friend in Indiana at various concerts of his.

Anything from Starbucks
Starbucks Frapps used to be my reward for getting a good report card when I was in grade school. All Starbucks stores give off the same vibe, even in London.

My Favorite YouTube Videos
My patience for screaming girls in concert videos on YouTube is incredibly high. I much prefer live music to studio most of the time. After all, crowd reaction is half the point. I am not going to put links for this because 1. no one would watch them anyways 2. someone would be like "omg why is there so much screaming it hurts my ears" 3. There is no way I am going to try and find all of them. As it is this blog post has taken me weeks to write and it still hasn't turned out the way I intended.
